Which Isuzu for which job

Start from the work, not the model. Each page names the trucks and bodies that suit it, with typical capacities and the questions buyers ask.

Tippers and construction trucks
For light site work and town deliveries, the NQR81K tipper carries a 3.6 m³ bucket. The FVR90 steps up to 7.7–8.3 m³, and the 6×4 FVZ34 is the quarry and ballast workhorse at 15 m³. For bulk haulage on a trailer, the GXZ prime mover pulls a 33.5 m³ tipper trailer.

Water and fuel tankers
Tank sizes run from 5,000 litres on the NQR81K to 16,000 litres on the 6×4 FVZ34. Most county and contractor water bowsers sit in the middle, on the FRR90N (8,500 L) or FVR90 (11,000–12,000 L). Fuel tankers use the same chassis with an epoxy-coated tank and a metered dispensing unit.

Refrigerated trucks
Choose the temperature first, then the truck. Flowers and horticulture run at about +5 °C, dairy at −5 °C, fresh meat, chicken and fish at −18 °C, and ice cream and deep-frozen goods at −30 °C. Short multi-drop routes suit the NMR85H and NQR81K; longer and export runs suit the FRR90N and F-Series.

General cargo and dry freight
Every Isuzu truck takes a general cargo body: low drop-side, fixed high-sided, or a fully enclosed steel box. Standard bodies run from 3.0 m long on the NLR77E to 7.5 m on the FVZ34. For electronics and dry food, an insulated dry-cargo body keeps the load clean and secure.

Bread and beverage distribution
For bread, the NMR85H carries about 360 standard crates and the NQR Xtra or FRR90N about 660. For soda, beer and bottled water, palletised bodies take from about 150 crates on the NMR85H to 520 on the FVZ34, with open sides and forklift access.

Agriculture and farm transport
For tea, the NQR Xtra and FRR90N carry about 280 bags of green leaf. Insulated stainless milk tankers run from 7,000 litres on the FRR90N to 16,000 litres on the FVZ34. Livestock, grain, animal feed and farm-input bodies fit the N-Series and F-Series, and the FVZ34 is the cattle carrier.

Waste management trucks
Garbage compactors and skip loaders run on the FVR90 (10 m³ bin), FVR34P and FVZ34 (15 m³). Vacuum exhausters start at 7,500 litres on the 4×4 FTS34, with 10,000 litres on the FVR90 and 15,000 litres on the FVZ34.

Ambulances and mobile clinics
Ambulances are built on the D-Max single cab and the NPS81H 4×4, which reaches rural facilities on unpaved roads. Mobile clinics, from outpatient and maternity to dental and X-ray units, use bodies of 5.0 m on the NQR81K up to 7.5 m on the FVZ34.

Cranes, aerial lifts and utilities
Truck-mounted cranes, knuckle-boom or telescopic, are fitted behind the cab of models from the NQR81K to the FVZ34, with a drop-side body for the load. For live power-line work, insulated aerial lifts reach 12 m on the NMR85H and NPS81H 4×4, and 15 m on the NQR81K.

Recovery trucks and car carriers
For moving cars, rigid and sliding-bed carriers are built on the NQR81K (5.0 m bed), NQR Xtra (6.0 m) and FRR90N (6.1 m). For heavy recovery, the FVZ34 carries a rotating recovery crane rated at 12 tonnes at 3.55 m, with front and rear winches.

Mobile workshops
A mobile workshop brings the service bay to machinery in the field. Bodies run from 4.4 m on the NMR85H to 7.5 m on the FVZ34, and the FTS34 4×4 reaches sites off the road. A typical fit-out has a 2-tonne monorail hoist, generator, compressor and workbench.

Safari and tourism vehicles
For game drives, the NPS81H 4×4 takes a game-viewer body for 14 passengers. For overland tours and larger groups, the FTS34 4×4 carries 30, with front and rear recovery winches, luggage compartments and a cooler box.

Fire and rescue vehicles
Rapid intervention vehicles are built on the D-Max for fast first response. Full fire engines, with an independent diesel pump, water and foam tanks and an overhead monitor, are built on the FRR90N, FVR34P, FVR90 and FVZ34.
